The account manager guide
Everything you need, in the order you need it. Read it once, then come back whenever you're unsure.
1. Create your 2 TikTok accounts
You run two brand-new TikTok accounts for Guardian. Make them on your own phone, with your normal UK mobile data or home Wi-Fi.
- One phone is fine. TikTok lets you switch between accounts: Profile → your name at the top → Add account.
- Use a fresh email for each. A new Gmail or iCloud alias works. Don't sign up with your personal TikTok.
- No VPN, ever. TikTok needs to see a UK phone so the videos are shown to people in the UK.
How to name them
Each account is a girl's first name, then .safetips. Pick a common UK girl's name, different for each account:
molly.safetips · ellie.safetips · grace.safetips · amelia.safetips · olivia.safetips · lily.safetips · freya.safetips · isla.safetips · poppy.safetips · emmy.safetips
If the name is taken, try molly.safetipsuk, molly_safetips or another name. The display name is just the first name, e.g. Molly.
Which audience each account is for
- Uni girl (18–23): halls, freshers, nights out, getting home from the club.
- London girl (23+): work, commuting, first flats, dates, travelling alone.
Make one of each, or two of the same: your choice. When you add the usernames on your page, say which is which and the generator gives each account the right slideshows.
2. Warm them up (2–3 days)
A new account that posts straight away gets shown to nobody. Spend 2–3 days making each account look like a real person first:
- Scroll the For You page for 15–20 minutes a day on each account.
- Search and watch: women's safety tips, uni life UK, London girl, night out tips, solo travel tips.
- Like 20–30 videos, follow 5–10 accounts in that world, and leave 2–3 normal comments (“this is so helpful”, “saving this”).
- Watch videos to the end. Skip anything off-topic quickly.
When your For You page is mostly safety tips and UK girls' content, the account is ready. That's usually day 3.
3. Set up the profile
- Photo: an aesthetic photo of a girl from behind, or a cosy flat-lay. Never your face, never someone you know.
- Bio: keep it short, for example “the safety rules my dad made me learn 🤍 uk” or “saving you from the stuff nobody tells you 🤍”.
- Leave the link and everything else empty.
4. Take your Guardian photos (once)
One slide in every slideshow is a photo of a phone with Guardian open. It has to be a real photo, taken by you:
- Download Guardian: App Store. Open the map around a London address or where you live.
- With another phone, or by asking a friend, take 3–5 photos of the phone in a hand with the map showing: on a table in a café, on the Tube, in bed. Natural, a bit casual, not perfect.
- Keep them in an album. You'll use a different one each time.
No second phone? Take a screenshot of the map, then photograph your laptop or tablet showing it. Or ask us on Discord.
5. Generate a slideshow
- Open your page on your phone and pick the account you're posting on.
- Press Generate a slideshow.
- Press Save photos to my phone. On iPhone choose Save Images: they land in your camera roll, in order.
Each slideshow is new for you: you never get the same one twice.
6. Edit and post in TikTok
- In TikTok press +, then Upload, and select the photos in order: slide 1 first. Put your Guardian photo in at the slide number shown on your page (usually slide 4).
- Make sure it's a photo post (the photo icon, not video).
- Text: on each slide press Text and paste that slide's text (the Copy text button on your page). TikTok's Classic font, white, with the background style that puts black behind the text so it's readable. Put it in the top half, over sky or wall, not over faces.
- If a slide has a second text box, add it as a second text lower on the same slide.
- Sound: press Add sound, search the sound name shown on your page, and pick it.
- Title and caption: paste them from your page.
- Post. Then go straight to the next one or the other account.
Don't change the words. They're written and tested to perform. If something looks wrong, tell us on Discord.
7. Your daily rhythm
- 5 slideshows a day in total across your 2 accounts: say 3 on one and 2 on the other, then swap the next day.
- Space them out: morning, lunch, evening. At least an hour between two posts on the same account.
- Keep scrolling and liking for 5 minutes a day on each account. It keeps them alive.
- Don't delete posts, even ones that get few views. They often pick up later.
8. The rules
- Only post slideshows from the generator on these accounts.
- Never buy followers, likes or views, and never use bots or follow-for-follow.
- Don't reply to comments arguing or giving advice of your own. A heart on nice comments is plenty.
- Never post anything about yourself or anyone you know.
- If an account gets a warning or a ban, tell us on Discord the same day.
9. Getting paid
£200 a month for 5 slideshows a day across your 2 accounts, paid by PayPal after each month ends.
We count your slideshows straight from your accounts once a day, and your page shows your count all month. On the 1st you get an email with your month, and the money reaches your PayPal within 7 days.
Questions about anything? Ask in your private Discord channel. A real person answers, usually within the hour.
